Root Form Implants

Root form dental implants are inserted directly into jawbone to replace a tooth’s missing root. These implants offer full restoration of strength and function, and are capable of preventing jaw shrinkage and collapse. This can help root form implants provide a lifetime of support for restorations such as crowns, bridges, and even dentures.

While root form dental implants are the most common type, they require sufficient jawbone width and depth for support and are not be ideally suited to meet the needs of every patient.

Plate Form Implants

Like root form implants, plate form implants are inserted directly into the jawbone. However, these dental implants are thinner, allowing them to be placed in jaws that are too narrow for the root form type.

Plate form dental implants are a wonderful alternative for patients who are not good candidates for root form implants and would prefer to avoid a bone grafting procedure. They provide a strong foundation for restorations and can help prevent jaw shrinkage, making them suitable for a variety of needs.

Subperiosteal Implants

Subperiosteal dental implants are placed above the jawbone, just below the gum line. These implants do not offer the same dental implant advantages as root and plate form options, but are stronger and more reliable than dentures.

Because they do not rely on adjacent teeth for support, subperiosteal implants may also be a better option than dental bridges for some of our patients. This is best determined during your initial consultation.
