Teeth Whitening Options

Dr. Miyake offers both in-office teeth whitening and take-home options to meet the varied needs of our patients. In-office whitening takes around one hour and can lighten teeth up to ten shades in a single visit. Take-home options are not as fast, but do allow for complete whitening in the comfort of your own home. Our take-home kits come with professional-strength bleaching solution and customized application trays, making them vastly superior to store-bought alternatives. This can be discussed in greater detail during your teeth whitening consultation.

If your staining is below the surface or if there are additional cosmetic issues that need to be addressed, Dr. Miyake may suggest porcelain veneers or dental bonding as an alternative to topical teeth whiteners. These options are placed over the teeth to cover more pronounced imperfections and are the best option for teeth discolored by tetracycline, fluorosis, heavy tobaccos use, and similarly tenacious stains. This option will be discussed as needed during your cosmetic dentistry consultation.

Maintaining Your Teeth Whitening Results

One of the most effective ways to maintain teeth whitening results is through proper daily care. This includes brushing after every meal and snack to remove surface stains, and flossing at least once daily to remove food particles from in between teeth. Using a mildly abrasive toothpaste can be helpful, but is not always necessary, and should not be used on porcelain veneers or dental bonding.

You can also help keep your teeth their brightest by:

  • Not smoking or chewing tobacco
  • Reducing your intake of coffee, tea, soda, and wine
  • Brushing immediately after eating colorful sauces such as marinara or curry

Biannual visits to our office are an important part of maintaining your whitening results as well. These visits allow us to remove more stubborn surface stains while also checking for oral health issues that can darken the teeth. When appropriate, we can discuss future whitening services and provide you with refills for your home whitening kit during these visits as well.

We are dedicated to helping you feel confident in your smile and look forward to assisting you in reaching your aesthetic goals. If you are ready to schedule an appointment with our Fresno cosmetic dentist, please contact us today.
