Your teeth are necessary for biting, chewing, and speaking. Healthy teeth and gums are also important for fresh breath and overall oral comfort. More than that, however, your teeth can be an indication of your general health, making twice yearly general dentistry visits to our office an important part of your preventative healthcare routine.

Teeth and Systemic Problems

During your regularly scheduled visits, Fresno dentist Dr. Greg Miyake will carefully examine your teeth and gums. Partly this is to ensure general oral hygiene and check for signs of tooth decay or gum disease, but that’s not all your teeth have to say.

Things Dr. Miyake will look for include:

  • Uneven tooth wear to indicate stress or neuromuscular disorders
  • Sores or growths to indicate cancer or skin diseases
  • Weak, crumbly teeth to indicate gastroesophageal problems
  • Chronic dry mouth to indicate certain autoimmune disorders of diabetes

These and other health issues can be detected through regular visits to our office. If problems are noticed, Dr. Miyake will discuss what needs to be done to prevent them from becoming serious or even life-threatening issues.

If you live in or around Fresno, Clovis, or Madera, California and would like to learn more about the importance of biannual dental examinations, please contact Gregory G. Miyake, DDS to schedule an initial consultation today.
