EGCG and Oral Cancer

A new study has shown EGCG to contain properties that target and destroy oral cancer cells. EGCG is one of the catechins found in white, green, black, and oolong teas that has previously been shown useful in cancer prevention. This is the first study to show it can also actively fight cancer once cells have developed. How this information will chance oral cancer treatment has yet to be seen.

Dr. Miyake supports any steps you can take to prevent oral cancer. This may include adding tea to your daily routine, but also refraining from tobacco use and excessive alcohol consumption, and being sure to visit our office every six months for cleanings and examinations. If oral cancer is detected during these visits, Dr. Miyake can discuss treatment options to immediate address the problem.
