Porcelain veneers offer a natural-looking and incredibly effective way to address a number of cosmetic dental problems. Veneers can last for several years with proper care, but may need to be replaced over time for continuous results. Fresno cosmetic dentist Dr. Gregory Miyake can discuss this with you in more detail during your porcelain veneers consultation.

While not permanent, veneers can be maintained for lasting results. The best way to maintain your porcelain veneers is by:

  • Using a nonabrasive toothpaste – abrasives can scratch veneers
  • Using a soft bristled toothbrush – like abrasive toothpaste, hard and medium bristles can damage veneers
  • Avoiding mouthwash with alcohol and astringents – astringents can weaken the bonding that holds veneers to teeth
  • Avoiding hard candy and biting ice – hard candies and ice can break, chip, and crack veneers

You can further help maintain your veneers by brushing after every meal and flossing at least once daily to help prevent decay underneath your restorations. Biannual visits with Dr. Miyake are also a good idea for both oral health and aesthetic maintenance.
