Invisalign®'s clear plastic aligners allow you to get the orthodontic adjustment you need without the hassle, annoyance or embarrassment of traditional metal braces. It's no wonder Invisalign® is growing in popularity.

Are you a candidate for Invisalign®? The only way to know for sure is to come to our office for a consultation. However, the first step is simply determining if you have a condition that can be treated by Invisalign®. These aligners are great for correcting:

  • Overbites
  • Underbites
  • Crossbites
  • Crowded or irregularly shaped teeth

The good news is that if you have one of those conditions, you are almost certainly a candidate for Invisalign®. There are very few patients who are candidates for metal braces but cannot get Invisalign®. Dr. Miyake will help you determine if these aligners are right for you.

Osseointegration - Fresno Dental Implants - Dr. MiyakeDental implants represent an exciting solution for Fresno-area patients looking for a tooth replacement option. Implants are inconspicuous, but, perhaps their most impressive attribute for people who don't love going to the dentist is their durability. If properly cared for, dental implants can last the rest of your life.

This is partly a matter of the strong materials used in the crafting of dental implants – the implants we offer are made from titanium, while the artificial tooth that caps the implant will be made from porcelain. But there's another reason for the durability of dental implants: osseointegration.

Osseointegration is the process by which the dental implant fuses with your jawbone to form a fully functional replacement root. During your implant placement surgery, we will place the implant deep into your jawbone. Your body then begins the arduous but necessary process of accepting a foreign object and making it a part of itself.

During osseointegration, which usually takes between three to six months, your jawbone will be slowly building up bone material around the implant. Once this process is complete, the implant will be firmly rooted in the bone, ensuring your new tooth has a remarkably strong and stable foundation.

If you live in or around Fresno, California and you have questions about dental implants or the implant placement procedure, please call Dr. Gregory G. Miyake, DDS today at 559-478-2235 for a consultation and examination.

Dental Checkups - Fresno DentistDental hygiene is an absolutely crucial element to protecting your long-term oral health. And while at-home dental care is indispensable, so are regular visits to your Fresno dentist. In general, you should plan on visiting your dentist at least once every six months.

You might well be wondering why such visits are so important. After all, you practice good oral hygiene. You floss on a daily basis. You brush your teeth twice a day. Are dental cleanings really necessary?

And the answer is simple: yes. There's really no substitute for a thorough, professional cleaning from our experienced dentist. You can do everything right in terms of at-home dental care and still have plaque and food residue left on your teeth. And if left there, that plaque poses a serious threat to your teeth and gums.

Dr. Miyake has tools and technology to both reach parts of your mouth that you cannot and to provide your teeth and gums with a more thorough cleaning than is possible at home. And with his experience, he can spot developing problems early so that they can be treated before they become serious.

Of course, once every six months is a general recommendation. Those patients with more serious dental concerns might need to visit our office a bit more frequently. Dr. Miyake will talk to you about your dental needs and our staff will work with you to find appointments that fit with your busy schedule.

If you live in or around the Fresno, California area and you need a dentist you can trust, please call Dr. Gregory G. Miyake, DDS today at 559-478-2235 for a consultation and examination.

Professional teeth whitening in Clovis, CALet's put it bluntly: teeth whitening is big business. Everyone wants bright, white, photogenic teeth, and a lot of companies offer whitening products in an effort to meet this demand. As such, if you're a Clovis-area resident looking for over-the-counter teeth whitening options, you have plenty of them.

However, let's make one more blunt point: you should not choose over-the-counter whitening products. These products will not provide you with a thorough whitening, and they will not be customized for your specific needs. And when you choose a whitening product that is not custom-designed for the shape of your teeth, you risk getting whitening gel on your gums and cheeks, which can cause irritation.

This is, obviously, less than ideal. Fortunately, you have better choices available to you. Whitening treatments from Dr. Miyake will provide you with the kind of thorough, safe whitening you desire and deserve.

And the great news is that we offer a number of options for you to choose from. If you want to have an  in-office teeth whitening experience overseen by Dr. Miyake, we can provide you with exactly that. On the other hand, if you're more interested in the convenience of at-home whitening treatments, we can provide you with custom-designed trays and professional strength bleaching solutions.

Put simply, we can meet all of your teeth whitening goals, and we can do so more safely and effectively than any over-the-counter product you can buy at a drug store.

If you live in or around Clovis, California and you want the best possible teeth whitening experience, please call Dr. Gregory G. Miyake, DDS today at 559-478-2235 for a consultation and examination.

We know that choosing the right Fresno general dentist is important. And we also know that it isn't easy. After all, you're not a dental professional – how are you supposed to evaluate your many options and determine which dentist is right for you and your family?

And this is an important choice – after all, this is the dentist who is going to be caring for your teeth and the teeth of your family for years to come. You want to get it right.

Fortunately, there are a few relatively simple factors you can consider. By keeping them in mind, you're likely to make a sound, informed choice:

  • The most important factor is experience. You want a general dentist with a proven track record of doing good work. There's really no substitute for experience, and you don't want to trust your oral health to someone who lacks it.
  • Secondly, make sure that the dentist you choose has the ability to offer you the specific procedures you need – after all, you don't want to run around to different dental offices just to get all the necessary procedures.
  • Finally, you need to feel comfortable with your dentist. After all, you're going to spend a fair bit of time with your dentist – it's important that you have a good relationship with the dentist and his or her staff.

We're confident that a full consideration of these factors will lead you to Dr. Miyake's. Our dentist has more than 30 years of experience in the field and we are capable of handling all of your diverse dental needs.

If you live in or around Fresno, California and you need a skilled, experienced general dentist, please call Dr. Gregory G. Miyake today at 559-478-2235, to arrange a consultation and examination.

Implant dentistry in FresnoDr. Miyake often recommends dental implants for our Fresno-area patients who are in need of long-term tooth replacement. Implants offer a number of advantages over dentures and other replacement options, and, as a result, they are often the best choice for many of our patients.

But it's important to remember that implants aren't right for everyone. We work very hard to ensure our patients only undergo the procedures that are appropriate for them and their specific needs. Dental implants are no exception.

The ideal candidate for dental implants:

  • Is in good overall health and has no active infections
  • Does not suffer from gum disease
  • Is prepared to invest significant time in the implant process
  • Has sufficient bone density to support an implant in the jaw

That last point is the truly important one. Because dental implants require the placement of a titanium implant root in the jaw, there must be enough bone density there to support the implant. However, even if you lack that density, there are options – many patients in this position undergo bone grafts to augment their jaw bone.

We understand you likely still have lots of questions about dental implants and if they're right for you. We want to answer those questions, address your concerns and help you down the path toward good dental health.

If you live in or around Fresno, California and you're considering dental implants, please call Dr. Gregory G. Miyake today at 559-478-2235 to arrange a consultation and examination.

sleep apnea symptoms - Fresno dentistSleep apnea is a serious condition – we tend to think of sleep apnea in terms of snoring, but the long-term health effects of sleep apnea can be serious. And if left untreated, the condition can even prove fatal. That's why it's so important for Fresno-area patients like you who are suffering from sleep apnea to seek treatment as soon as possible.

Of course, before seeking treatment you need to know you have a problem. And that's not always easy when it comes to sleep apnea. That's why we've compiled a brief list of symptoms associated with the condition.

Call Dr. Miyake for an examination if you have the following sleep apnea symptoms:

  • Chronic snoring
  • Fatigue, especially in the morning
  • Headaches
  • Abrupt awakenings during the night
  • Sudden episodes of breathing cessation during sleep
  • Irritability

One of the reasons sleep apnea is difficult to diagnose is that many of the symptoms described above can be dismissed or ignored. Not every poor night's sleep is caused by sleep apnea, nor is every episode of snoring. And, of course, it's difficult for many people to be aware of things that happen while they sleep.

But if you find yourself dealing with multiple items from the list above, you might well have sleep apnea, and getting a firm diagnosis as soon as possible is absolutely vital. Dr. Miyake can help you determine if you're suffering from sleep apnea, then work with you to find a solution that restores you to restful sleep.

If you live in or around Fresno, California and you think you may suffer from sleep apnea, please call Dr. Gregory G. Miyake, DDS today at 559-478-2235 for a consultation and examination.

There are a number of ways to protect teeth and prevent gum disease. Call Fresno dentist Dr. Gregory Miyake at (559) 478-2235 to schedule an appointment and learn more.

You likely know that brushing after every meal, flossing at least once daily, and visiting our Fresno office every six months for professional cleanings can help prevent gum disease, tooth decay, and other oral health issues. Now, a study from researches at the University of Manchester has shown that chewing your food for longer periods of time may help prevent infection and disease as well.

For this study, researchers looked at oral Th17 cell production related to mastication. Th17 cells, part of the immune system that help defend against harmful pathogens, seem to increase when food is chewed for longer periods. This can help improve immune response in the gums and throughout the body and may be useful in preventing disease. However, researchers warn that chewing too long can have the opposite effect. Too much Th17 cell production actually increases risks for gum disease.

So, which is it? Does chewing longer prevent or encourage gum disease? That all depends on how long “longer” is for you. The standard 5-10 times for softer foods and 30 or so for meats and denser/rougher foods remains ideal for most.

When combined with a good daily oral hygiene routine and biannual vests with our Fresno dentist, proper chewing is very beneficial for oral health. However, the foods you choose will play a role as well. No matter how long you chew sugary foods or how long you keep simple carbs in your mouth, risks for tooth decay, infection, and gum disease will increase. In fact, the longer these foods stay in the mouth the more damage they do. Choose healthy food. Brush and Floss often. Visit our Office every six months. These steps will all help prevent oral health problems and keep your natural teeth strong and attractive for years to come.

To schedule your next appointment with Dr. Miyake, please contact us online or by calling 559-478-2235 today. Located in Fresno, Dr. Miyake serves patients living throughout Northern California.
